Sylvia Savala is a painter, printmaker and writer. She is a native of Fresno and was interested in art at a very young age. However, she was directed into the business field instead. She was given a typewriter at the age of ten and was told that she would make a "great secretary." After receiving an Associates of Arts Degree in Business from Fresno City College, Ms. Savala attended California State University of Fresno where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish.
Sylvia pursued her interest in art into her mid twenties. Fueled by courage and pure grit, she followed her dream of becoming an artist in her own right. The inspiration for some of her work has come from her travels to Hawaii, New York and Italy. Additionally, she studied printmaking in Mexico City. She is Vice-President of Gallery 25.
Presently, she is in the MFA Creative Writing Program at CSU Fresno and will be graduating in May 2006. She also teaches at CSU Fresno.
