It was in 2000 that I read an article in the Vanity Fair magazine about a group of upscale professional women in New York who got together and called their cocktail party get-together “The Cake Party”. The following party was called the “Let Them Eat Cake” party.
Immediately an image of a cake with a slice missing set between the legs of a woman came to my mind. The missing slice represents the vagina, and the red line of frosting represents a woman’s menstrual cycle. This image symbolizes women’s ability to embrace her sexuality with pride and thus, empowering her.
This series is about two lovers having found each other. But these images also serve as a metaphor for the merging of the male and female aspects of the Self that seek an innerbalance and wholeness.
